UltraSn0w / Signal Bars Issues after 4.3.1 Jailbreak Fixed

Do you have problem with signal bar after jailbreak iOS 4.3.1? Do you still wait ultrasn0w fix to update to iOS 4.3.1?  Well, MuscleNerd has just announced that dev-team has successfully managed to fix ultrasn0w , signal bar and more to work on iPhone 4, 3GS after jailbreaking iOS 4.3.1. All issues will be fixed via a new update on ultrasn0w (not Redsn0w update). Dev-team will release the new update within few days after testing all devices

MuscleNerd: The 4.3.1 issues (signal bars, etc) are fixed http://is.gd/OYktXf but need a few days to test all devices + FW (again: not a new unlock!)
Note: this is not a new unlock, it's only update to ultrasn0w to work on iOS 4.3.1 for the unlockable basebands. (Not supported basebands : 2.10.04 / 3.10.01 / 4.10.01)

Toyota begins advertising on Cydia, targets members of jailbreak scene

Toyota, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, has taken to alternative iOS app-store and software repository Cydia to run a series of adverts and offer a sponsored theme, becoming one of the first major corporations to target members of the jailbreak scene.

The move was spurred by the Federal Government’s decision to make jailbreaking legal, allowing millions of iPhone and iPad owners to remove restrictions placed on their device but also giving companies a dedicated route by which they could start to engage with the jailbreak community.

Cydia’s creator Saurik estimates that around 9% of iOS users jailbreaking their devices, with 1.5 million unique users access Cydia daily. Topping 5 million users each week, it is thought that up to 15 million Apple devices have been jailbroken.

Acknowledging the growth of the community, Toyota has started to begin marketing on the app marketplace, designing a custom iPhone theme specifically for jailbroken devices, choosing to run a campaign with ModMyi.com, which sees them host the theme but also run ads on their website.

Toyota’s campaign sees it advertise its new Scion range, users simply need to search for Scion 2011 Theme in Cydia to download it. The company has also taken out ad spots within Cydia to promote its campaign.

Nissan, one of Toyota’s major rivals, became one of the first corporations to utilise Apple’s iAd platform, running a campaign for the Nissan Leaf. The company and its advert were even featured by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during one of his keynotes. Whilst Cydia might not have the visibility of Apple’s iAd platform, users are more educated on how to use their devices and marketing budgets are going to be somewhat lower than advertising directly with Apple.

The Cupertino-based company will not be happy with advertising dollars lining the pockets of third-party developers, particularly if it encourages other major brands to begin targeting the jailbreak community. It would be interesting to see if results proved favourable for Toyota, we have contacted them for comment and will update should we receive a reply.

Apple Patches iPad 2 Jailbreak Exploit by Comex !

Comex has just confirmed via a series of tweets that his userland jailbreak he already showed off few days ago has already been patched by Apple in the newly released iOS 4.3.1. Well, hackers lose the war against Apple again.

Comex on his Twitter account:
yeah, uh. I can find kernel exploits, but this is ridiculous.

As noticed by @0naj, my kernel exploit was fixed in 4.3.1.

I try not to be paranoid, but it is really hard to explain this as anything but a leak.

It stayed there from 4.0.2 through 4.3, but was magically found in time for 4.3.1. well, go go @MuscleNerd and @i0n1c I guess
Interestingly, and as Comex notes, "is that my "new" kernel exploit is actually the kernel exploit used by JailbreakMe 2.0. It was never properly fixed."

Now the only hope is from the iPhone hacker Stefan Esser who is the only one having untethered exploit right now which jailbreaks all iOS devices on iOS 4.3.1 except iPad 2. Yes, MuscleNerd and Stefan must find more exploits to jailbreak the iPad 2. [Twitter: 1,2,3,4]

        • (Changes On Step 15), use the following commands in Terminal:
Tip: Simply drag and drop in Terminal – tetheredboot file, then iBSS file and then kernelcache.release file.

Fix Mobile Substrate in Cydia After iOS 4.3 Jailbreak

Once a user jailbreaks the iOS 4.3, he manages to force the ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) feature which was implemented in the new iOS 4.3, to break the Mobile Substrate in Cydia, which is needed by many other tweaks and add-ons available in Cydia.
It is because of this update, that you will now be able to install and use all of the jailbroken apps and tweaks on the iOS 4.3 without any error or bug.

        What You Need:
        1. Jailbroken iOS device on iOS 4.3
        2. Basic knowledge of jailbreaking
        Instructions:
Now, the very first step is to open up Cydia from your “Homescreen” and go to the Search tab from Cydia, and search for “Safari Download Manager” and “iFile” for your respective iOS device and install both these apps

Now once you have downloaded both the apps, navigate to the below given link from your iOS device Safari browser
The Mobile Safari browser will prompt you if you want to download the file or not, click on the “Download” button and download the following file directory
        • .deb file to: /var/mobile

Now, go and start the “iFile” application and navigate to the place where you downloaded the above file directory. Tap on the Mobile Substrate.deb file and tap on the “Install” button to start the installation process
Once done, just give your iOS device a reboot to make sure things progress successfully. Now, once the reboot is complete, start Cydia again and search for “Mobile Substrate” and you should have the latest version for the iOS 4.3

DreamBoard – An Alternative To WinterBoard For Jailbreak Themers

WinterBoard has been the skinning app of choice for many-a-jailbreaker for a good long while now, and it’s done a sterling job. Now though, it’s perhaps time for a challenger to try to break the equilibrium. That challenger is DreamBoard.

Now before you all read that opening paragraph and go delete WinterBoard, allow me to explain. DreamBoard is actually a little different to WinterBoard. The new DreamBoard is more of a way to apply themes to an iDevice rather than the more granular (if you want it) option of WinterBoard.
DreamBoard’s real party-piece is the ability to make an iOS device look more like Android. Out go the rows of icons and in come the widgets.
The best thing to do is to watch the video below, where you’ll see fancy new weather and Facebook widgets. Worth a watch indeed.

iPhone OS 3.0.1 has been released to fix SMS exploit which could remotely control the victim’s iPhone. This guide will help you update to the latest iPhone firmware 3.0.1 while keeping your jailbreak and unlock intact. This guide applies to all the iPhone’s – iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS:

You will need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.0.1 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.

Download redsn0w 0.8 (download link given below) and start the application. Browse to the Original iPhone firmware OS 3.0 .ipsw file for your iPhone. Check the links below to download them. (NOTE: 3.0 not 3.0.1)
redsn0w will then verify to see if the .ipsw is valid.

Now redsn0w will automatically patch the original file.

Phone 2G users can select both “Install Cydia” and “Unlock” options. iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users should only check on “Install Cydia” to jailbreak. Dont check the option for “Icy”.

Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

At this stage you will be presented with the screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 3.0.1.

To check whether your iPhone has been updated to 3.0.1:

        • Navigate to Settings
        • Select General
        • Select About. Your iPhone OS version should now be: "3.0.1 (7A400)" or later

Now if you want to install “Icy”, follow the link here and read “Fix for Problem 5” to install “Icy”.

iOS 4.3 GM Jailbroken Already Using PwnageTool. Here’s A Complete How-To Guide !

Yes you read that right ! The just released iOS 4.3 GM for iPhone 4 has been jailbroken already. The jailbreak though is tethered only for now, which means that you will have to boot it into jailbroken state every time you reboot.

Support for iPad, iPhone 3GS and iPod touches is on the way ! Simply follow the instructions below to jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4 using a combination of PwnageTool 4.2, Universal Ramdisk Fixer and tetheredboot utility.
        Here’s what you will need:
        • PwnageTool 4.2
        • Access to iOS 4.3 GM firmware
        • iTunes 10.2
        • Mac OS X
        • PwnageTool bundle for iOS 4.3 GM
        • Universal Ramdisk Fixer
        • tetheredboot utility
        Note:
        • Cydia is fully working on iOS 4.3 GM.
        • It is a semi-tethered jailbreak.
        • Your baseband will not be upgraded during restore process.
        Modifying PwnageTool
Step 1: Download PwnageTool bundle for your version of iOS device. Extract the .zip folder, in there you will find a .bundle file, for this guide, we are using iPhone 4 bundle iPhone3,1_4.3_8F190.bundle. Move this file to your desktop.
Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.2 and copy it to /Applications directory. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.
        iOS 4 Jailbreak (1)
Step 3: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPhone3,1_4.3_8F190.bundle file in this location.
        Jailbreak 4.3 (1)
Creating Custom Ramdisk for iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware
Step 4: Download Universal Ramdisk Maker and simply install it as shown in the screenshots below. This is important because Ramdisk in the current version of PwnageTool is broken. This Universal Ramdisk Maker basically patches it correctly for iOS 4.3 firmware.
        Ramdisk (1)
        Ramdisk (2)
        Ramdisk (3)
        Ramdisk (4)
        Building iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware
Step 5: Download iOS 4.3 GM firmware. Move this file to your desktop.
Step 6: Start PwnageTool in “Expert mode” and select your device:
        PwnageTool 4.3 (4)
Step 7: Browse for iOS 4.3 GM firmware for your device as shown in the screenshot below:
        Jailbreak 4.3 (4)
Step 8: Now select “Build” to start creating custom 4.3 firmware file:
        PwnageTool 4.3
Step 9: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.
        PwnageTool 4.3 (2)
Step 10: Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode using PwnageTool:
        • Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
        • Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
        • You device should now be in DFU mode
        PwnageTool 4.1 (3)
Restore iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Using iTunes
Step 11: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on Mac, or Left “Shift” button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.
        Update iPhone 4 4.2.1 (4)
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.3 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file that you created above, and click on “Open”.
Step 12: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.3 on your iOS device. Your iOS device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, your iOS device will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.
        Booting in Tethered Mode
Last but not the least, since there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 yet, we will have to boot it into a tethered jailbroken state. To do this, we will make use of a utility named “tetheredboot” as shown in the steps below.
Step 13: Download tetheredboot.zip utility for Mac OS X and extract the .zip file.
Step 14: First, we will need two files from the custom iOS 4.3 GM firmware namely: kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu. To do this, make a copy of your custom iOS 4.3 GM file that you created above, change the extension of this file from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.
Now copy kernelcache.release.n90 file, and then copy iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu files which are found under /Firmware/dfu/.
Move all these files, and tetheredboot utility to a new folder named “tetheredboot” on the desktop as shown in the screenshot below.
        Jailbreak 4.3 (2)
Step 15: Turn off your iOS device, and start Terminal on OS X and run the following commands:
        sudo -s
        enter your administrator password, then:
        /Users/TaimurAsad/Downloads/tetheredboot/tetheredboot
        /Users/TaimurAsad/Downloads/tetheredboot/iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu
        /Users/TaimurAsad/Downloads/tetheredboot/kernelcache.release.n90
You will have to of course replace “TaimurAsad” with the name of the directory on your computer.
        now press enter.
        Jailbreak 4.3 (3)
You should now see some code running in the Terminal window, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:
        • Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
        • Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
        • You device should now be in DFU mode
Now wait for your device to boot, Terminal at this point will be showing “Exiting libpois0n” message. After a short while, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be booted in a jailbroken tethered mode !
        iOS 4.3 Cydia
UPDATE 1: A new iOS 4.3 PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 4 is now available which eliminates the need of Step 4 above for creating Ramdisk. You can download this new bundle from here.
UPDATE 2: iOS 4.3 PwnageTool bundle for new and old bootrom iPhone 3GS can be downloaded from here.

        - I'm going out to buy a Windows 7 phone

Geohot will add a singificant progress and transformation on the Windows Phone 7 jailbreak scene.
What is the meaning if he doooooo?

        iPhone Jailbreaking/unlocking will stop?

Apple has once again started revitalizing its efforts to stop the process of jailbreaking and unlocking iPhones but doesn’t look to be gaining any ground on the subject. Nadair Jackson, the college student from the video below, is among the many people who are now flooding Craigslist and Ebay with offers of either selling an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone or charging a fee to perform the process of unlocking/jailbreaking the phone. Check out the video to hear Nadair describe how it works?:

NBC reports that Apple is trying to recruit the Federal Government to help crackdown on the hackers performing the jailbreaking of the iOS. They’re attempting to gain help again even after a losing legal battle against the EFF last year involving iPhone jailbreaking and unlocking. “Current jailbreak technologies now in widespread use utilize unauthorized modifications to the copyrighted bootloader and operating system, resulting in the infringement of the copyrights in those programs,” Apple told the U.S. Copyright Office. Jailbreaking an iPhone breaks the law, Apple said, because the process relies on pirated copies of the bootloader and operating system. But if the rumors of the iPhone 5 being launched without a physical home button were to come true, it would definitely make jailbreaking the iDevice much more complicated. It’s highly unlikely that there will ever be a sure-fire way to stop jailbreaking/unlocking but even so, do you think that Apple will ever implement something that would truly make people think twice about jailbreaking/unlocking their iDevice?

Geohot Vs Sony: “making Sony mad” 3 minutes Video

AOTS (Attack of the Show) today hosts exclusively (live) Geohot to talked about the lawsuit which Sony recently filed against him for jailbreaking the PS3.
He made it very clear that his jailbreak (geohot.com) doesn’t enable piracy. All what he does is to allow anyone to run unsigned homebrew apps for the first time on their systems such as PlayStation 3.
The Important Question and Answer was:

Q: “what exactly the issue is, what are you being sued for here?”.
        A: “making Sony mad”.

Check out the whole (five-minute) interview in the video embedded below. It’s worth a watch!

Comex's Untethered Jailbreak to Release After Verizon iPhone?

Yesterday we reported you about the last estimates for untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 from Comex the well-known iPhone hacker. Apparently he still hesitated about releasing it, as he started his reply to someone asked him about the timing with "I don't know"

i0n1c asking: so is not waiting for the next iOS for untethering?
Comex replying: I don't know, I think I'm waiting for the Verizon iPhone.
Till know Comex isn't able to give us an exact estimate for his long awaited untethered jailbreak, he may care about patching his jailbreak on Verizon iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.5, I think it's an acceptable excuse for Comex to let Verizon iPhone 4 users able to jailbreak their devices once they got it.

Some good news, Andrea Cervone over iPhoneItalia was able to contact with Comex (the hacker behind JailbreakMe and Spirit), he asked him whether he will preserve his untethered jailbreak until Verizon releases iPhone 4 which will be powered by iOS 4.2.5 ? Let's see how Comexreplied him

Andrea Cervone asking: So, if Apple releases iOS 4.2.5 on 10 February, you’ll preserver your new tool and exploits for that firmware? Maybe this will be a good move. Dev Team and Chronic Dev are releasing their tools for iOS 4.2.1, your can be saved for the future too.

        Comex replying:
        I hadn’t seen that.
        Interesting.. but a month’s
        A long time to wait.
So, it's now clear that Comex has moved back about his last ETA (estimate to arrival) for his untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 as it was related to iOS 4.3 (or iOS 4.2.5) official release. Anyway let's wait and see. Stay tunes

HOW TO: Jailbreak Apple TV 2G iOS 4.2.1 Using Seas0nPass

Well, the guys over FireCore has successfully jailbroke Apple TV 2G running iOS 4.2.1 with a new jailbreak tool called Seas0nPass, for now it's only available for Mac users. Seas0nPassjailbreak looks like PwnageTool technicality, as it cooks custom firmware that you can restore to via iTunes.

FireCore was able to enrich Seas0nPass with some features, as it allows you to download the IPSW file for your Apple TV and provides one click tethered boot. While Seasn0nPass is based on the boot room exploit which used to jailbreak iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, it's tethered till now.

How to jailbreak Apple TV 2G using Seas0nPass:

STEP 1: Unzip the 'Seas0nPass.zip' file and launch Seas0nPass (Download at the end).

STEP 2: If your AppleTV is not yet jailbroken, select 'Create IPSW'. (if already jailbroken, and you just need to do a 'tethered boot' scroll down).

STEP 3: The latest AppleTV software will be downloaded and used to create a custom 'jailbroken' software file.

STEP 4: When prompted, connect your AppleTV using a micro-USB cable (leave power disconnected), and hold both the 'MENU' and 'PLAY/PAUSE' buttons for 7 seven seconds.

STEP 5: iTunes will open automatically and start the restore process.

STEP 6: iTunes will confirm the restore when complete - your AppleTV is now jailbroken. Please proceed to the 'tethered boot' section below.
How to use Seas0nPass for a 'tethered boot':
Some AppleTV software versions require a tethered boot. This means the AppleTV must be connected to a computer for a brief moment during startup.
Note: The AppleTV MUST be disconnected from the computer (for at least a brief moment) after restoring in iTunes for the tethered boot process below to work properly.
STEP 1: Open Seas0nPass and select the 'Boot Tethered' option.

STEP 2: When prompted, connect the AppleTV to your computer via USB. Wait for the rapid flashing light then connect the power. Once both are connected hold both the 'MENU' and 'PLAY/PAUSE' buttons for 7 seven seconds.

STEP 3: Seas0n Pass will complete the tethered boot automatically. Once complete, remove the USB cable and connect the HDMI cable.
